Trust Annual General Meeting Minutes 2022

The Leeds United Supporters' Trust held their 2022 Annual General Meeting on December 7, featuring a special address from The Times' Chief Football Writer, Henry Winter.

Here is a summary of the evening's events:

Welcome and introductions

  • Vice Chair Graham Hyde welcomes attendees to the call – apologies from Dan Foster were submitted

Matters arising from 2021 AGM minutes

  • Secretary Adam Willerton circulates the minutes from 2021’s AGM and gives attendees opportunity to read them throughout the meeting. He then asks attendees to vote to accept the minutes and they are accepted

Chair’s Address

  • Acting Chair, Clair Hufton, addresses attendees. She talks about the previous year, and departures from the board.

  • Thanks Pete Emmerson for his work as Chair. Thanks Graham Hyde for his work as Vice

  • She also thanks Oliver Murray for his time and work and states that he has chosen to stand down from the board this year

  • Clair thanks Debbie Young for her work this year as a co-opt and states that she will be standing down from her role

  • Clair then introduces the board and invites president, Simon Rix, to address the AGM

  • Simon talks about the work the Trust has been doing and about his new involvement in the day to day activity of the trust

Treasurer’s Report

  • Mark Roberts presents his report and says we are in a strong position and growing year on year

  • Mark runs through key expenditures and highlights the surplus of £545 – stating that it is actually closer to £3.5k due to income not being included until next years’ accounts

  • He asks attendees to vote to accept the accounts. They are unanimously voted in

Confirmation of board members

  • Adam delivered the results of the annual board member nominations

  • A contested election was not needed as five vacancies were declared, and two nominations were received

  • Adam delivers the scrutineers report written by EMG chair Alasdair Bell and states that this will be available for embers to read after the AGM on the Trust website

  • Gyp Walters and Chris Harvey were confirmed as board members following an affirmative vote

Interview with Henry Winter

  • Ben Shires conducts an interview with Henry Winter who has been reporting on the World Cup in Qatar

  • Henry talks about the Leeds United related players at the World Cup, and also puts on record his condolences to mark 25 years since Billy Bremner’s passing

2022 Achievements and What's Coming Up

  • Josh Cawthorne recaps the Trust achievements over 2022 - 5 murals, 72 FA Cup plaques installed in the East Stand, Hunslet Boys club half term football club (500 children fed), Foodbank 'pie or a pint' campaign and a £500 donation at Christmas

  • He then discusses our work around Football is for the Fans – Touches on the Trust’s FSA involvement, Graham Hyde’s appearance in the Super Greed Documentary, and our involvement in the SAB board ticketing trial

  • Josh talks about the partnerships with LUSCOS, LU Americas, Marching Out Together and LUDO

  • Adam talks about the FSA relationship and the work we do with other Trusts around large campaigns and smaller issues and how members can influence governance at high levels

  • Clair highlights the priorities for 2023 - Fan championing, Asset of Community Value, Fan Led Review, Safe Standing/Rail seating, Elland Road redevelopment, Club ownership, SAB involvement, Murals, Future Trust, Expanding membership benefits

Any Other Business

  • The board answers questions - membership numbers - Clair confirms around 1,200

  • Adam answers question from Rob Platts on progress on sustainability at the club and confirms he will pick up with Rob after the AGM 

  • Josh and Clair answer questions on membership and ticketing and highlight the challenges that the club face

  • Graham places on record thanks to attendees and Henry Winter and formally closes the meeting.
