Dan James named Paul Madeley Player of the Year for 2024/25

Welsh international Daniel James has been named the Paul Madeley Player of the Year for the 2024/25 season after a vote by Trust members.

The 27-year-old, who has scored 12 goals and set up a further nine for the Whites this season, received two-thirds of the votes from Trust members, beating Ao Tanaka, who was chosen by 14 per cent of our members, into second place. James' Welsh international colleague, Joe Rodon, finished third with nine per cent of our members voting for him.

James succeeds club captain Ethan Ampadu who won the fans' award last campaign.

We plan to present the Welsh winger with his prize ahead of our final home game of the season against Bristol City on April 28.

James will be hoping our award is the first of several which may be coming his way this season. He has been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Year alongside Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford and Sheffield United midfielder Gus Hamer while he is likely to be in the running for the club's top prize at the awards night next month.

The Welshman has already picked up one prize this season after being named Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for February. After being handed the trophy, he told Sky Sports: "What I wanted to do from last season is push on again and contribute as much as I could for the team.

"As a winger, I just want to be as direct as possible. I try not to turn down one-on-ones.

"I want to be ruthless on the pitch. And that's the key to it. I don't want to turn anything down. There are games where I'm going to give the ball away a lot, but it's because I'm trying to create something.

"You can lose the ball 10 times in a row, but then you just have to go at your player again. And the one time I do it can lead to a goal.

"It's tough to get into that mindset, but once you're in it and you feel confident. You may not then get the chance for 60 minutes in a game, but in that last 30 if the ball is coming down your side you just have to be ready.

"There are times where I need to be a bit more ruthless with what I want to do, and I want to continue to do that."
