Trust Chairman Pete Emmerson Steps Down

Trust Chairman, Pete Emmerson, is stepping down after serving four years on the board.

Pete joined the board in April 2018 and was unanimously voted on as Chairman in January 2020. During his time as Chair, he has overseen a rebuilding process of the Supporters’ Trust, cementing a healthy relationship with the club, and creating strong links with other fan groups, local businesses and charities that will last long after his tenure.

Pete said: “I am extremely privileged to have led the Trust over the last few  years. We have achieved some amazing things together as a team, with highlights being the centenary museum event at the Merrion Centre in 2019, fighting the European Super League and, most recently, working with the human dynamo Paul Trevillion to honour the 1972 FA Cup winning team at Elland Road - plus lots in between.

“I am pleased to have served a full term and I know I leave the board in really good shape. I am privileged to have worked alongside great and passionate fans on the board who I know will continue to represent our members in the best possible way.

“It is a thankless task at times but also rewarding in so many ways and we, as Leeds fans, are extremely lucky to have such wonderful people representing members and trying to benefit the Leeds community through the vehicle of Leeds United.

“Juggling the Trust role with a demanding day job means I’m often working away from home, so I feel now is the right time for me to hand over the reins and to make sure all the spare time I have is spent with my family - and watching Leeds United of course!

“I’d like to thank Angus Kinnear and the staff at Elland Road for always engaging with us no matter the subject, our Honorary Members who always wanted to help the cause and the numerous people who we’ve worked with over the years, of course our members and finally a huge thanks once more to the board who, after all this time, I hold as dear friends.

"Marching on Together, always''

As Pete steps down, the Trust will look to elect a new Chair at the next AGM.

Adam Willerton, Leeds United Supporters’ Trust Secretary, said: “Being the Chair of a Supporters’ Trust takes an enormous amount of time, effort and emotional energy and Pete has given more than has ever been asked of him. He has been a driving force behind all of the successful projects the Trust has been involved in during his time on the board, and has done so much to help Leeds United fans and the local community.

“Pete has always shied away from receiving praise and gratitude for his work but, unfortunately, he’s going to have to take this one on the chin.

“We’re all so sad to see him step down, not only because of the enormous hole this leaves in the Trust, but also because he’s such a good mate.”

A massive thank you to Pete on behalf of everyone at the Trust for his drive and determination in making the Trust what it is today. He has left it in a very strong position and has been a great friend to us all.
