Mural Tribute to commemorate Leeds United Legends

Back in September 2020, we announced plans to bring more Leeds United Themed artwork across the city to celebrate our club’s rich history. This project was designed to re-engage the city with LUFC artwork following on from the first original Lowfield’s Road midfield mural painted back in 2017.

In December, we brough you the giant 50ft Pablo Hernandez mural, immortalised on the side of the Duck and Drake Pub in Leeds, followed by the amazing stand out Gary Speed mural at Showoff Design in Bramley Leeds.

You wouldn’t believe that since August 2020 we have had this mural in planning, with the whole project having to get planning permission before it could go ahead. The mural features four greats that we’ve recently lost in Jack, Norman, Trevor and Peter.

We’ve been working closely with Leeds based artist Nicolas Dixon, the creator of the ‘Bielsa The Redeemer’ Mural in Wortley Leeds, who has designed and painted this standout mural using his inspiring biomorphic shapes and vivid colours.

The 33 ft mural is painted on the side of Avanta Care building which directly overlooks Pudsey Market. We really hope that you all go and visit it and take some time to have wander around the market and support the local traders.

We’d also like to thank the local traders who have been supportive during planning permission and in the next few months we hope give them some vinyl stickers for the side of their stalls, courtesy of Imageco, to continue with the LUFC theme to drive more traffic to them. It’s great that as well as bringing some more amazing artwork to the city that we can support the local market and hopefully bring along many more new visitors to give them a vital boost.

These murals don’t just happen overnight, they take a lot of planning and require working with local businesses and artists to help get funding and support to bring them to life. As well as two local businesses - Avanta Care Ltd and Baker Harding, we’re proud to partner with LUSCOS - our passionate Scandinavian supporters club who have helped to part fund this mural. Special thanks to Anders for leading the support and we know how especially close you all were to Peter and Norman. We hope we’ve done you all proud!

Anders Palm, from LUSCOS said “We wanted to honour our latest lost legends, especially Norman and Peter who were very close to us and good friends to many Scandinavians. We are delighted to support the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust in their mural project to honour these great Leeds United Legends.”

After much feedback, we’ve also created an amazing page on our website dedicated to the LUFC murals across the city. Each containing location, detailed information and of course not forgetting…..the nearest pub! When you visit the murals, please share your images on our socials and we will add you the picture gallery. A big thank you to board member Josh, who’s spent a lot of volunteering hours pulling the interactive page together – this will be shared later next week.

A big thank you our very talented artist - Nicolas Dixon, he told us that is has been incredibly emotional working on this mural and as a lifelong Leeds fan he’s proud to be able to combine his two passions in art and Leeds United. Nick, has spent a lot of his own time and money putting this design through planning permission and working with the local council to get the job done. Thanks for your tenacity and passion in doing justice for four Leeds United Legends.

We’d like to thank our members and fans for donating to the mural fund so far, we can’t keep doing these murals without your support, so please keep the donations as and when you can: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/lustmurals
