Gabriel Gudmundsson has been presented with the Paul Madeley Player of the Year Trophy for the 2025/26 season.

The 27-year-old left back, who joined from French club Lille in the summer, received 40 per cent of the votes from Trust members and was handed his award ahead of the 1-0 win over Brighton at Elland Road.

The Swedish international beat skipper Ethan Ampadu, who picked up 34 per cent of the vote, into second place. Dominic Calvert-Lewin finished in third spot with Anton Stach and Joe Rodon also polling well.

Gudmundsson succeeds Daniel James who won the fans' prize last campaign.

The Swede, currently sidelined by injury, hopes to cap off a memorable first season with the Whites after being named in his country's squad for this summer's World Cup in North America.

Gudmundsson began his career with Halmstads BK, scoring 16 times in 88 matches. A move to Eredivisie would follow, spending two years with FC Groningen before joining France’s then-reigning champions Lille in 2021, with whom the Swede made nearly 150 appearances in a four-year spell.

After making the switch to Elland Road last summer, the defender told LUTV: “It feels very good. It's been a dream for me to come to the Premier League and to sign for Leeds to be a part of that, it feels amazing.

“I think I was growing up watching the Premier League;. it's an amazing league and it's a big competitive league, strongest league in the world I think, in my opinion.

“My friends and family told me that the fan base is huge [at Leeds United] and obviously I know that and also the stadium here is unbelievable as well with the fans shouting.''
